Entry from: Puno, Peru Entry Title: “Lake Titicaca” Entry: “Lake Titicaca, the highest altitude lake in the world, with possibly the slowest boats known to man taking you around. We boarded our slow boat with 6 other Intrepid travellers and slowly made our way to the floating islands of Uros. These “islands” are made from floating moss and reeds that they have to replace about once a month. At one point the indigenous decided to make these islands to get away from the government on the mainland. After our visit to the floating islands we went to Capachica where we met the families we would be staying the night with. My family consisted of the mother and 4 kids, who were so hilarious. None of them spoke English so it was fun attempting to talk with them and somehow I managed! Funny how iPhones can bring people together! After lunch I showed the eldest daughter, Gisela, 14, some photos on my iphone and then showed her how it played music. She loved it and took it to other families to show them the pictures and the music. She requested “Hannah Montana” and it just so happens I might have a few Miley tunes on the ipod! We played volleyball against the locals, a gringo v local match, and we got killed. The women are amazing volleyball players and it took us awhile to score a point against the local team …

Entry from: Bangkok, Thailand Entry Title: “Bangkok Day 2″ Entry: “2nd day and last day in Bangkok today. Just as yesterday, ive taken refuge from the thunderstorm to add another addition to my blog. I leave at 8.00 this evening for Ko Tao, which will equal about a day of traveling by bus and boat. I’ve got my accommodation and diving course sorted yesterday afternoon, so everything for the next week should run pretty smooth. Didn’t have time to see the grand palace yesterday and the temple of the emerald buddha, so went this morning (by now i know it rains come mid afternoon), and it was really amazing. I’ve never seen anthing like the temples in Bangkok. There so… amazing. So much gold and gems and work put into these huge buildings. Got a tuk tuk ride there and back, which i was dreading as they continue to scare the life out of me and i’m sat there praying that i’m not going to be crushed between traffic. Still dead hot here though, but hopefully travelling south to the coast should make things a little more comfortable. Honsestly though, still cant wait to loeave Bangkok. I love it and hate it at the same time. Having my first stop being Bangkok on my trip was probably throwing myself in at the deep end, at least thats how it’s felt to me, but now at least i know i can handle the rest of my trip …

Entry from: Istanbul, Turkey Entry Title: “Istanbul” Entry: “22.04.09 Tour organised for trip to Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar. Very cool wind and cloudy. Fastinating city of 15 Mill. Split into 2 sides one government and spanning 2 continents. There were cars, buses, taxi’s, scooters and trams jossling for position on the roads. Arrived at the Topkapi Palace and our guide Elif (pronounced Ill Leaf..)explained the history and the 4 courtyards (3 official ones and 1 just for the Sultan). One family of Ottomans held the throne from father to son from 12th Century until 1920s then it was passed onto the next male in the family not necessarily the son. The palace was divided into various areas the financial / political side which now has a wonderful exhibition of jewellery and items of adornment such as cockery, a ceremonial bejewelled gold chainmale suit and the infamous Spoon Diamond which is 86 carat and another diamond of 56 carat yahoo babe they are almost fist size and stunning… no pics allowed. The Spoon Diamond was so named as a poor street seller found it and not realising its worth sold it to a spoon maker for 3 x wooden spoons.. and so the phrase and awards began hehe. There was also a huge kitchen building running the entire length of one of the courtyards and turned out 10000 meals per …

Entry from: Hong Kong, China Entry Title: “So many people, so little space.” Entry: “So, Jet Airways wasn’t half bad! They got me here, at least. And they had little touch-screens with films and games (bejewelled! But sadly not Bejewelled Blitz…). They fed me various strange foods, my least favourite being the soggy omelette and wedges, my favourite probably the Indian-style potato sandwich. On the subject of food, I feel a bit guilty admitting that my first meal in China was a pizza from Pizza hut- but in my defence, it was exactly the kind of home-comfort I needed and some (most) of the Chinese food we passed looked severely unappealing. There was a stall that was selling what looked like dried skin and there’s a lot of sea-food knocking about, which I don’t like… So I’m a bit concerned about what I’m going to be eating all year. Hopefully I’ll eventually find some mushroom-based dish I can enjoy. It’s a bit frustrating that I’m in Hong Kong but I haven’t had much of a chance to see it. From the plane I got an impression of the landscape- a surprising amount of green hillyness with little clumps of sky-scrapers. I’m in Kowloon at the moment, and there’s not a two-story building in sight. The layouts of the buildings are bizarre as a result. Take the building my hostel is in, for example. Ironically …

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Mission Beach, Cairns, Australia by TravelPod blogger Adeline titled “Skydive Tropical Mission Beach” Adeline’s travel blog entry: “We leave Cardwell for the short journey to Mission Beach, a small backpacking resort. Again it’s a beautiful setting, tropical wetlands, 14km white sandy beaches, rainforests etc. Unfortunately, this morning is a little overcast and we even get a couple of rain showers. As we make our way to Mission Beach we are extremely lucky as its pot luck to actually spot one of the endangered native Australian Cassowary birds. We stop along the road for some photo’s of the banana plantations and notice at the bottom of the field, a large Cassowary. There are approx 40 known cassowaries in the region. He’s not too shy and actually makes his way to greet us. However his feisty reputation precedes him and we back away. Fergus and I take a wee walk around Lacey Creek Rainforest. Its quiet muddy and the mosquitos are out in force. We meet a couple (English and Italian living in Canada) who are a bit lost and disorientated, so we escort them around the track before dropping them back to their car. It was quiet amusing. We meet up with Nic and Dad at Mission Beach for a swim witin the stinger net and some fun with the frisbee before having a spot of lunch. This afternoons activity is “Extreme Skydiving” on Mission Beach. The flight up is very enjoyable with spectacular views of the tropical rainforests …

The stylish traveller: Gifts to enhance a trip across town or around the world
Travel isn’t the glamorous endeavour it once was. Forget the monogrammed luggage and cashmere shawls: today’s frequent travellers want practical tools that get them through security and onto the plane, let them shut out the inflight chaos and, once they arrive, stay in touch with their home and office. But through it all they still want comfort and luxury.
Remember Pakistani actress Meera Khan? Meera vanished from the social and filmy scene with only a couple of utterly forgettable films and lots of generated controversies back home to her name. But, now Meera is making a re-entry into Bollywood with Jhansi ki Rani- Laxmibai, wherein she plays the historic lead character. Recently, an interesting first look of the film was unveiled and a bejewelled Meera mounted a horse to pose for the cameras. The actress looked quite convincing while brandishing a sword, in a sari and a matching turban. “I’m lucky I got to play this character, and I’m sure I won’t disappoint my audience,” she said hopefully. Meera, it seems has been on a two month training regime for horse riding and sword fighting, but what about direct competition from another more popular, more successful actress? That Sushmita Sen was the first to announce a project based on the Rani of Jhansi is a well known fact. What does she have to say about the professional rivalry and comparisons? “There should be a healthy competition. But the competition should be on screen and not in real life. My best wishes are with her (Sush) and I’m sure her best wishes are with me,” she said. 44PBMeeraPakistaniActorRaniLaxmibaiFilm.mp4
